Gain Work Experience

Not sure if a career in environmental health is right for you? Getting some work experience gives you the chance to get the inside track on whether you're suited to a particular career.
Getting work experience with your local council also looks good on a CV and can help you develop some crucial job skills.
Phone or email your local council's human resources department describing your skills and what you're interested in doing and ask if they have any work experience or shadowing placements available.
To find out how to contact them, go to our “Find Out More” section of this website and use the hyperlinks to log onto your local council’s website.
Also, go to www.lgjobs.com and look for temporary posts that could give you a feel for the job without a long-term commitment. The chances are that you will want to stay for longer!
